President's Update: Tri Santa Cruz, upcoming races & Masters
Hey all you crazy triathletes!
Congratulations to everyone that raced on Sunday at Finish Line Production's Tri Santa Cruz! It was literally a perfect weather day for racing. A HUGE shoutout to all of the volunteers on the beach, on the bike course (so much SCTA action) and in transition! I felt like I heard "Go SCTA!" every minute or so. That's awesome!
Plenty of podiums on Sunday but the best, in my opinion, is the Sprint Relay team of Cecilia, Calvin & Michael winning the Mixed Relay Division! What a team! Congratulations!
Gunnar Roll topped the podium for his AG with a Top-10 finish overall!
But...congratulations to young superstar Jake Gibbs on his AMAZING Olympic distance race! With a 2:06:12 finish that put Jake at the top of this AG and 4th overall and only about a minute off of 2nd place. Well done, Jake!!!! We'll keep chasing you at #tracktuesdays!
Another shout out to Penni and her crew at Finish Line Productions. This is their biggest triathlon of the year and Sunday was a beautiful day! We finished off the race with getting everybody in the awards ceremony to cheer and bring in Ruth! If you were there to witness this, it was an amazing ending and quite emotional!!
Speaking of Penni, her and I were talking about Simpkins and it seems that this coming Wednesday will be the last Wednesday night @ 6:00 PM Masters class until Winter (which they cancelled last year too). We are working on filling in a Wednesday workout so stay tuned!
Congratulations to Sloan Campi & Johan Schimmel who raced USAT Age Group Nationals in Omaha, Nebraska! Johan got 51st in his age group and Sloan got 69th place.
Please everyone welcome new member, Cam Day! Welcome, Cam. You've joined an amazing association filled with some crazy people!!!! Also welcome back to James Nagamine who recently renewed and swam across Donner Lake this weekend.
ANNOUNCEMENT - Message from Ironman:
"We are looking for homestays for some of our PRO athletes that are competing in the IRONMAN 70.3 Santa Cruz event. If you are interested in being a homestay host for a PRO," please contact me, Steve Doinidis, @ santacruztriassociation@gmail.com
You can also contact me via Facebook Messenger or call/text.
I think it's great that Ironman is reaching out to us as their primary contact within the Santa Cruz community.
Coach Marty & Dave put on Santa Cruz Triathlon(s) Swim Clinic on Saturday and it was a total success! Rich Larson assisted with paddle support as every athlete practiced their ocean entrance, exit, buoy turns and everything else that the coaches could teach us. The run clinic is quickly approaching!! If your a member RSVP here. If you're not, become a member and you can attend the clinic for free.
Did anyone see that crazy athlete on Sunday in a speedo? Man! I want one of those. Where do I get one?
(We have women's swim suits as well!! Word on the street is they're a bit snug, so keep that in mind)
